Can a impound crush my car with out notifying me?

Date: 2/3/2022 7:45 AM (PST)

A tow yard who had my car for a little less then 100 days crushed my car and didn't even inform me. Is that legal? And if I filed a police report why didn't they inform me before crushing it?

Hello Albert. I believe there are over 20 states with specific towing and impoundment laws so I recommend that you research these laws in your state. I am including a link here to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (“TDLR”). It is a link that contains information about vehicle storage facilities in the state of Texas: https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/towing/consumerinfo.htm

If you are unable to get your vehicle out of impound for financial reason, check to see if the impound lot offers a payment plan. If not, your vehicle can be sold at auction or destroyed if the vehicle is not out of impound within a certain amount of time. Most impound lots have a set amount of time by which you’ll be required to get your vehicle back.
