Hello Cindy. Employees have rights. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is the agency you want to direct your question to The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administering and enforcing worker protection laws. Please call 1-866-487-9243 or visit You will then be directed to the nearest WHD office for assistance. The WHD agent will be able to go over with you information you need to file a complaint and may have additional resources available to assist.

Please verify with the DOL, but I believe that nonexempt or at-will employees can legally have their hours cut. As far as advanced notice of the reduction in hours, that varies state to state and may depend on current economic factors the company is currently facing.

I hope this information is helpful. Please contact me directly at if you have additional questions or concerns.
