Hello Lindsey. I’m sorry to hear of your situation. Is a company able to do that? You ask. It depends on the state you live in.

States that have At Will Employment, means that an employer can terminate employment at any time for any reason, except an illegal one, or for no reason without incurring legal liability. In other words, if you are employed at will, your employer does not need good cause to fire you.

There are only a small group of states that do not currently recognize the exemption and they are Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia.

Please follow-up with your state’s labor laws to confirm.

I hope this information is helpful. I can be reached directly at vantillon@checkbca.org if you have any questions.

So I am at an “at will state” but even with out a warning they are able to just fire you? that’s not fair.
