Late payment

Date: 5/21/2019 4:51 PM (PST)

Rent a Center wants me to pay 95.64 for a late fee. The previous employees did not update my address or phone number so they went to the wrong address to notify me that I missed my payment. I paid that payment on 5/6/19 then today 5/20/19 I paid 137.00 for my last final payment of May. Now because the previous employees did not update my information they want me to pay the late fee. The next employees are aware of the situation because they told me they went to a address that was a previous one.
I don't feel that is fare that I should have to pay the late fees of 31 days late. I thought all my payments were automaticly deducted from my account. I never check back my credit account because I never had a problem with Rent a Center with my two previous purchases. Should I have to pay the late fees of 95.64?

Thank you

Good Morning Linda. You should dispute it with Rent A Center. In your post, you state that you thought payments were being automatically deducted from your bank account. If this turns out to be true, your bank statement should help you prove to Rent A Center that the payment was already collected and on time. I suggest starting out by contacting their customer service department at 1-800-422-8186. You also have the option of filling out a form online and they typically respond within 48 hours: https://www.rentacenter.com/how-rac-works/contact-us-online Their customer service department should be able to answer your questions on how their dispute process works and where and how you can send proof of payment.

Now, if you continue to get nowhere with Rent A Center then you do have the option of filing a complaint with BCA. We’ll contact Rent A Center with the allegations in your complaint and ask that they address. As soon as we receive a response, you will be contacted. Filing a complaint with BCA is quick, simple, and Free: https://www.checkbca.org/filecomplaint.aspx?id=13000517

I hope this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at vantillon@checkbca.org if I can be of further assistance.
