Left at jobsite

Date: 9/25/2018 6:29 PM (PST)

Yesterday I was left at a construction site about 50 miles from where I parked my car at employers business. I went in company vehicle to job site, I worked several hours and decided that I no longer wish to be employed, because I was not given all information about this position, and I was left at construction site with no water no ride no money in my pocket by the lead man who drove me there, and no pay for days work..IS THIS LEGAL?

Good Morning Sylvia. I’m sorry to hear of your experience. The company definitely handled the situation unprofessionally. No company should treat their employees this way and there are labor laws to protect workers from this workplace behavior. I recommend you contact the Department of Industrial Relations. Labor law violations should be reported to their office: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/HowToReportViolationtoBOFE.htm The complaint form can be downloaded and submitted online: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/DLSE1_BOFE.pdf If you would like to speak to someone before submitting your complaint, you can call 1-844-522-6734.

Sylvia, I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact me directly at vantillon@checkbca.org if I can be of further assistance.
