Hello Kari. Good Morning and Happy Holidays. I understand your concerns. The general public should always proceed with caution when dealing with companies offering secret shopper jobs aka mystery shopper jobs. There are as you know ads for this type of service everywhere and unfortunately not all of them are legitimate.

Secretshopper.com has no complaints on file with us. However, because of the number of scams involved with this type of industry, we rate the company an “F” to urge caution to the consumer. If you navigate thru the company’s website, they provide a lot of detailed information about their services and the secret shopper industry as a whole. If you have not done so already I encourage you to visit the company’s website at www.secretshopper.com They have an FAQ page and a Privacy Policy Page and Ethics Policy page that should be read thoroughly. The company also has a mystery shopping scam alert which contains good information. Here is the link: https://www.secretshopper.com/info/shoppers/ScamAlert.asp

BCA also has many resource guides available on our website that cover an array of topics from Advertising to Work-At-Home Schemes and contain valuable information that the average consumer may not be aware of. I encourage you to check out our guide on Work-At-Home Schemes: http://www.checkbca.org/tips/business-general/work-at-home-schemes-62

Kari, I would also like to let you know about a new program developed exclusively for consumers called the Consumer Ally program. It was made for a community of consumers who share our mission of protecting people like you from being scammed by promoting first-rate business practices and warning other of scams. It's free to sign up, which you can do here: http://www.checkbca.org/consumer-ally. You can contact me at vantillon@checkbca.org if you have any questions. Thank you.
