Hi Chris!
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding whalegot.com. At first glance a few things set off red flags that this is an online retail scam. Your question mentioned the site selling cheap tool chests. When I searched for the site, it appeared to be an online retail shop selling women's denim and apparel. I used the search tool and found tools and other items inconsistent with a woman's apparel site. I also googled the contact information for whatgot.com, both the 6146953635 phone number and address 3347 Sugarfoot Lane,Lafayette,Indiana and found several other websites set up using the same contact information. We have received complaints for whalegot and some of the other affiliated sites claiming consumers paid for items but received nothing and were unable to reach anyone for an update on the status of the delivery or to receive a refund. The recent complaint we received against whalegot reads: "I made a purchase for a D28715 chop saw 52.39 I have made a few emails to the with no response. I have tried to call them no answer. Now I feel I have been scammed."

The address they provide is not a real address. It is not an addres with the USPS or on Google maps. The phone number just rings and no customer service is available to answer the phone. I would urge extreme caution with this site and any online retailer. Whenever you shop online it is a very smart tip to pay with a credit card. Using a credit card provides certain protections and advantages other payment options don't carry. For example, if you make a purchase and don't receive the order; you receive something different from what you ordered; the items are misrepresented; or there is some other problem; you have the ability to file a dispute with your credit card company.

Before you buy online, look for red flags that the offer may not be on the up-and-up. Here are a few tips to help you:

•Watch out for ads on social media. While this platform is a great way for small businesses to advertise, there are a multitude of scams that use the same means to swindle consumers. Be careful when clicking links and responding to offers you see on the Internet. Also, keep in mind these crooks often run several websites at once under different names so they can maximize their attempts to con the public.

•Even if the website looks attractive, don't be fooled. Check for contact information. If the business does not provide their phone number, address, or viable contact information, shop elsewhere.

•Before you click to buy, check online for any reviews and complaints about the business. Start by searching for the business on checkbca.org or call to inquire on the business.

•Make sure to read all the terms and conditions before you enter your payment info.

I hope this information is helpful. Safe shopping Chris. For more tips check our Online shopping guide: https://www.checkbca.org/blog/2016/11/business-consumer-alliance-online-shopping-tips-388.
