Someone got a loan on my credit, what to do
Good Afternoon Carolyn,This sounds like a case of identity theft. Identify theft is the use of the use of your name, birth date , social security number and more to open a credit account. If you find you are a victim of identity theft, there are several things you will need to do to resolve the issue. First, you should let the credit provider know this is fraudulent account. Ask the credit provider to close or put a freeze on the account while it is investigated for fraud. You should file an identity theft report with the FTC. It is recommended you place a fraud alert and/or a credit freeze on your credit file. Many credit providers will require you to file a police report, weather you know who opened the account or not. Dispute any fraudulent accounts with the credit reporting agency. BCA Resource Guide Identity Theft provides helpful information regarding Identity Theft.
