Government Phones

Date: 8/13/2020 5:13 PM (PST)

Hi, I am getting ready to sign up for a free Government phone and I would like some advice on which carrier has the very best product for my needs. I know that when a person signs up for a Government phone they arent allowed to choose which phone they can get but I also know that certain carriers have better phones and other carriers are more cheaper and outdated in my opinion, so my question is which carrier has the nicest, up to date cell phones? Possibly like a Galaxy phone or something nice like that?

Hello Sarah. Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, I cannot offer a recommendation. However, there are many factors to consider when you’re ready to make a decision. The first thing is you want to be sure is that the vendor provides service in your state. As far as the company offering an iPhone or Android, I’m not sure, but if you’re not happy with the phone, it doesn’t hurt to ask about what the cost would be to upgrade to another phone. Other factors to consider are airtime minutes, rollover minutes, features such as call waiting, voicemail, and caller ID. As far as text messaging goes, not every vendor offers it and some charge extra for each text sent and received. So it is recommended to ask questions about this service beforehand. If you’re going to be making long distance calls, ask the vendor beforehand about this. Another important factor to consider is the company’s policy regarding lost/damaged or stolen phones.

I do hope you find the best phone to serve your needs and I hope the information I’ve shared is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me at vantillon@checkbca.org if I can be of further assistance.
