I got a call saying I got a federal grant from 1-800-222-5555 Ky state police. Told me to call 1-315-510-9829. Said they were with the federal treasury reserve in New York. Wanted me to get an electronic card with all of my info on it and call them back with my info. This is $200, then they would walk me through 3-4 transactions with Western Union to receive $11,500. $11,300 for the grant and $200 for the card. A grant should've been mailed to me if they are legitimate. I didn't apply for a grant. They "randomly" selected my name. Not sure what to do. Very sure they are a scam. Talked to my bank manager, he was pretty sure it was a scam too. I don't want anyone to get hurt by this if you can do something. Maybe you can, maybe you can't. I didn't know who to contact about it.
Hi Karen. This is a scam. It has been circulating for some time now. A legitimate grant company is not going to instruct you to wire money to receive your funds, especially to receive a federal grant. Any fees would automatically be deducted. It would be downright dangerous to follow the instructions of a complete stranger over the phone that is instructing you to send money with a card that has all your personal information on it because they are from “federal treasury reserve” and that you need to send this card in order to receive your grant. The grant will never come and you will be out $200 and to make matters worse, you just gave your personal information to a complete stranger. Do not become a victim. This is a scam.
