no show fees for appointments

Date: 8/6/2013 9:45 AM (PST)

I was charged for two no show fees at a dermatologist office. I made these appointments over the phone I never set foot in the office. I had no idea there for fees for not coming to your appointment. No one made it aware over the phone or even gave you a reminder call the day before your appointment. I actually called back two days after my first missed and rescheduled again nothing about missed appointments. I called the billing office and the lady I spoke to said I signed something to allow me to get charged for this. I never was, I never set foot inside the office! I asked for a dispute and I got a voicemail today from a supervisor saying I was responsible for these and I would be sent to collections if left unpaid. How is this legal? I just filed a complaint on here what are some other suggestions? Thanks

Cecilia, I don't have all the details but typically when you make an appointment with any medical office, if you do not cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you may be assessed a "missed appt" fee at whatever predetermined cost the medical office displays or has in their contract. I'm not sure if this was your first appointment or a referral from another doctor to a specialist, but typically whatever terms or initial doctors office has would apply to the referred doctor. However if you did not sign or agree to any of these charges, you may file your complaint requesting the charges be dismissed. Here's the link to file your complaint:
