Beware of AVA
Unless your loved one has a total of $25,000 or less, DO NOT contact AVA. They do NOT tell you that until you have gone through 2 months of piles of paperwork, phone calls, etc. If your loved one has over that amount, they will ask you to commit fraud and hide the rest in order for your loved one to qualify. And if you don't do as they say, they will keep most of the $2,250 it cost to hire them, claiming "fee for paperwork", which they didn't do, we, the innocent party do all the paperwork. Keep in mind, if you decide to 'do as they say' and hide money, your loved one will NOT qualify for medicaid assistance when their assets run out, as they go back 5 years, and if fraud is found, they don't ask questions, they just decline the assistance. So, unless you are wealthy and can afford to pay for a loved ones assisted living, DO NOT USE AVA.

On November 10, 2014, Ms. Cheryl Potter went on AVA’s website and signed a 4 page Long Term Care Consultation Service Agreement outlining our services, customer’s responsibilities, refund and general provisions. Ms. Potter signed our Service Agreement as Power of Attorney for her mother and paid the consultation fee with her own credit card. During the consultation, the options for covering medical expenses were discussed with emphasis on VA benefits. Later Ms. Potter indicated that Medicaid benefits were a major concern, and more suitable as a long term solution for handling medical care expenses. Since the VA benefit allowed for gifting as an option to meet allowable limits, Ms. Potter felt it was a conflict for Medicaid eligibility. AVA does not advise clients to “hide” money nor do we charge clients for preparing the application for VA benefits. These are all covered on our website as well as the Service Agreement she signed. In an act of good faith, AVA refunded Ms. Potter in full on January 8, 2015 even though she was only eligible for a partial refund at the time of her request to cancel services.
