On January 30, 2015, Best Engine Auto Repair Inc, did a complete engine rebuild on my 2003 Ford Ranger PU with a 4.0 engine. The engine ran very good, until at about 300 miles it developed an engine rattle at idle. I took it back to Best Engine and was told that it was a timing chain tensioner failure, and he would repair it under warranty. After it was repaired, the truck ran fine for another 3 or 4 hundred miles, when it suddenly broke down. I was driving in town at about 30mph in second gear when I heard a loud snapping sound and the truck suddenly lost power. I had the truck towed to Best Engine, and I was told that the left front timing chain broke. Best engine repaired the engine under warranty, and told me that they replaced the entire timing chain system from a different manufacturer, because of the re-occurring problem. The truck ran fine for 6 or 7 hundred miles, when it broke down again. This time, I was driving on the freeway at about 65 mph in 4th gear, when suddenly the truck began to lose power. I did not hear any noise at the time, just a loss of power. By the time I was able to get the truck off the freeway, the engine was still running, but had no power and idled very roughly. I thought that I might have had a problem in the fuel or electrical system. I had the truck towed to Best Engine, for diagnosis and repair. This time, I was told that the rear timing chain had broken, again Best Engine did the repair under warranty. On this repair, I was told that the repair was made with genuine Ford timing chain parts, because of the continued problems with the aftermarket parts. Since this repair was completed, I have driven the vehicle about 5 to 6 hundred miles with no issues.
