Comments and Analysis

California law requires carriers to give customers an information booklet prior to the move with the shipper's signature on the last page of the booklet and on the agreement. Failure to do so is a violation and the shipper is entitled to $100 upon completion of the move. Carefully read all of the information in the booklet. Generally an Agreement for Service must be provided three days in advance of the move. The not to exceed price listed on the shipping documents should be reasonable (e.g. not be more than 10%-15% of the quoted rate). If additional items or services are required a change order of service must be signed prior to moving any items. It is advisable to purchase additional insurance for lost or damaged goods since the statuatory liability is only .60 cents per pound.
