Very good product, but Co. suffers from predatory practices against its customers

First off, know that I found out about the Business Consumer Alliance while searching for a class-action law firm in California to propose this case. I've been using Zeta-Clear for about 1 year with good results. I ordered more recently, and that's when problems started. I got some small charges ($4.98) to the credit card I used to process my initial purchase, but this charge case from "Health Beauty Group" in LA. No idea who these guys are ! Never heard from them before and no idea where this charge came from. A web search solved the mystery ..... yep, it's from Zeta-Clear.

Comments and Analysis

This company's health care supplements are marketed by television and internet ads and are typically introduced with a free trial offer which enrolls the buyer in a continuity plan with a negative option cancellation clause. ~~With this method products and services are sent to consumers unsolicited and unauthorized charges appear on credit cards. Usually materials sent with the product or service will allow a specified time period for cancellation and return without penalty or obligation. However many overlook the advisory and are unaware of the charge until their next monthly credit card statement. In some cases consumers find they are unable to contact the company to arrange returns or ask for credit. Most credit card issuers will allow the cardholder 60 days to dispute an unauthorized or inaccurate charge. Review your monthly statement carefully. If you discover a charge which is unfamiliar investigate and dispute the amount with your card issuer as soon as possible to protect yourself from making unwanted purchases.~~Often you can unknowingly join a plan simply by accepting an introductory offer of merchandise or services. Continuity plans may offer an introductory ""free trial period"" to let you check out the merchandise or service and decide whether to join the plan. If you keep the merchandise beyond the free trial period or fail to cancel the service within the free trial period not only must you pay you automatically become a plan member. Joining a continuity plan means you agree to the plan's sales method as long as you're a member. You'll automatically get periodic shipments of merchandise or delivery of services. You won't get any announcements or rejection forms before each shipment or service period. The shipments or services continue until you cancel your membership.~~Sellers must give you information about the plan's terms and conditions clearly and conspicuously in their promotional materials. These terms may include; that you become a member if you accept the introductory merchandise or initial round of services unless you cancel; or that periodic delivery of merchandise or services will occur - with no further action on your part; and will continue until cancellation is received. It also must disclose a description of the merchandise or services you agree to buy say whether there's a minimum purchase and how often you'll receive the products or services. An explanation of the plan's billing procedure for each shipment or period of service must also be provided as well as the terms of the plan's refund or return policy; how and when you can cancel your membership; and the price of the goods or services if you fail to cancel including shipping and handling if applicable.

Other Considerations

The BBB urges careful consideration of miracle products claiming to cure serious conditions — often conditions that science has no cure for like arthritis diabetes Alzheimer’s disease multiple sclerosis cancer and HIV-AIDS. Some products even claim to be a “cure-all” for several diseases and a host of symptoms. Often the ads claim the products come with money-back guarantees. Unfortunately these products devices and treatments often are unproven and useless making promises they can’t fulfill.~~The reality is that phony miracle products can have dangerous interactions with medicines you’re already taking. They also might cause you to delay or stop medical treatment for your condition even when proven treatments are available from your physician. And a money-back guarantee may be meaningless. Products that claim to do it all often do none of it. So even though you want to believe them be skeptical and avoid products that claim to cure incurable conditions make extraordinary promises like “shrinks tumors” promise a long list of benefits including “treats rheumatism arthritis infections prostate problems ulcers cancer baldness and more!âââ€Å¡Ã‚¬Ã‚ or are promoted with phrases like “scientific breakthrough ” “ancient remedy ” or “miraculous cure ” or scientific-sounding terms like “thermogenesis” Always talk to your doctor pharmacist other healthcare professional or public health organizations before you try any new treatment. Dietary supplements are products that contain “dietary ingredientsââ‚Ãâ€ÅÂÃÆâ€â„¢ÃƒÆ’†â€™ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¡ÃƒÆ’ƒÆ’ƒâ€šÃ‚¬ÃƒÆ’‚ like vitamins minerals herbs or other botanicals amino acids and enzymes. They range from beneficial to bogus and you may take them for a host of reasons — to feel healthy to feel younger to prevent disease or just to get more nutrients. Many claim to be “natural.”~~But just because a supplement is “natural” doesn’t mean it’s harmless or safe. Some supplements including herbal products can be dangerous. For example there are “natural” supplements linked to serious liver damage and even cancer. And though you can buy dietary supplements off the shelf without a doctorââÃÆâ€ââ€Å¾Ã‚¢ÃƒÆ’ƒâ€šÃ‚¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã…¡Ã‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s prescription some can affect how well your prescription drugs work. Some supplements do have proven health benefits: for example calcium supplements can reduce the risk of osteoporosis. The key is to talk to your doctor — especially if you have a medical condition take other drugs or plan to have surgery — before you add a supplement to the mix.~~For the latest information on dietary supplements visit the websites for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. Dietary supplements don’t have to go through the same FDA review for quality safety and effectiveness before they’re sold that prescription or over-the-counter drug products do. But the FDA requires supplement manufacturers to test the identity purity strength and composition of their products. Supplements labeled “homeopathic” do not undergo FDA review: by definition they are diluted to a point where they have few if any active ingredients.
