Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) Explained The Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) is an indicator on how responsive a company is in addressing and resolving customer complaints brought to their attention by BCA. Complainants allege after paying up front fees for loan modification services the company fails to provide modifications as represented. In many cases complaints were unable to reach the company to check the status of their modification, or to request a refund. In some cases, the complainants lenders have never heard of or been contacted by the company. Some allege the company advised them not to make payments until the modification is complete, and some complainants allege they have had to file bankruptcy or are facing foreclosure due to the company’s failure to fulfill their agreements. Recent complaints allege all contact information for the company is no longer active.

The company responds to a few complaints by denying refunds stating the only way the client is eligible for a refund is if they are not able to obtain a modification or some type of repayment program for the client. In a few other cases, the company claims they are still working on the modification, or issue refunds.

HUD approved housing counseling agencies are exempt from this law. For businesses outside of California, please check with the agency that regulates this industry.
