A scam , no agency will investigate
I received a call in January 2013 from a john Gafney, claiming to be a realtor from investment choices in Raleigh no Carolina , representing a co buying timeshare weeks to use as tax write offs and perks for clients. A lawyer then called , went over faxed contract . Then received a call from apex title & escrow llc . A mechalle Martin claiming to be escrow officer said co placed money in blind trust in a Mx bank to purchase the one wk timeshare we owned at Mayan palace in puerto violets Mx. We were to put moneys in wire transfer from chase bank , first to cover balance we owe, then funds to pay Mayan for fees to sell, then U S taxes owed, then Mx put lean on sale demanding taxes for sale , on and on, until we sent some $36,000 , all guaranteed safe by CEO mr baumgartner . When sale was completed we would be sent money . I can't believe I was so stupid to fall for this scam. After final payment was sent the phones at both businesses went to a message , then disconnect, No agency I have reported this scam to will investigate, claims just get passed on to another agency. I have all paperwork from both scam businesses, e mails , voice messages , yet no single one will help find and charge these thieves. , why? Lynn & nancy jones

Don't allow the company to pressure you into making a hurried decision. In most timeshare sales and real estate transactions, it is the buyer who puts up a deposit and the timeshare resale or real estate company gets its commission from the seller only after the deal closes. Many scam businesses are using the name, license number and even the address of a legitimate business. In most instances, the scam company's phone numbers will be different than the legitimate business’. We advise you check with your local regulatory agency, or agency where the company is located, to check the company's licensing status and current laws and regulations pertaining to the services the company is offering, and verify the company's contact information, especially the phone and fax numbers, matches the contract or solicitation documents. You should also check with your timeshare property to see if they have received any complaints or information on scams provided by other timeshare owners.

You can determine if the email address is fraudulent if it ends with a dash (-) and agency extention (-gob.mx) All Mexican government agencies have an email address that ends with (dot)gob.mx (.gob.mx)The email addresses used by the scammers pretending to be with a government agency will end with (dash)gob.mx (-gob.mx) We suggest you verify the contact information of the government agency provided in the emails and on documents.
