The owner talks a good talk but does not walk the walk. The final result was far short of what I contracted for

Mathew Carroll, At your request, I am entering my comments on your website concerning the paving, resealing and crack repair work that you did for me on May 17, 18 2021. I f you recall , I mentioned during the estimate visit, that I firmly believed in two things. One is that the contractor must make a profit, and two that the client must be satisfied with the end result. Here is how that turned out: 1/ the crack filling process missed too many cracks, and quite a few more needed refilling, which you did after I brought that to your attention----Grade 70% 2/The sealing changed the color but was with little body and did little else. It should have been squeegeed on, but instead was single coat sprayed with little overlapping. I was able to drive on it 1/2 hour after it was sprayed without leaving tire tracks as did you when you removed your trucks. The edging in front of the garage was never done---Grade 50%. 3/I emphatically requested that the pavement in front of the garage and by the road be a minimum of 3" When i stopped you because it did not appear to be 3" , you assured me that it would be by" layering". The gauge on the machine showed about 3" and your worker edged the pavement at about a 45* angle to make it appear like it was 3' or more. Also when rolling you compacted to about a foot of the edge and the worker blended it again making it appear about 1/2" thicker. An uncompacted edge will crumble by driving of the edge. There is an area up to 4' wide and 20' long that was not paved , and the curved section in front of the garage that was narrowed down by 4' over a 50' distance. One week later I drilled 4 test holes at random in the pavement to measure the actual blacktop thickness and the result was : 1 3/4', 2 1/4" 1 1/4" , 2 1/2". A little short of 3 " don't you think. Grade F. Finally I did the math. The area to be paved was about 3500 sq. ft. , which would require 32 cubic yards or 64 tons of asphalt at 4000 lbs per cu. yd. You brought out 2 truck loads or a total of 40 tons. Your costs: Asphalt--40 tons@ $60.00/ ton--------$2400.00 Sealant and crack filler-------------------$1000.00 Labor --& men @ $40.00/hr X2 days---$4480.00 Total $7880.00 In summary, on a $20,000.00, you ended up with $12200.00 to cover your overhead and the rest is profit. You did very well, but I did not get what we shook hands on. Hopefully this posting will educate others , and you will modify your deceptive practice that gives legit contractors a bad name.
