Good Morning Roger. Thank you for contacting Business Consumer Alliance (BCA). Do not call this number back. Under no circumstances should you verify your Social Security Number (SSN) with a complete stranger over the phone. You can let the caller know you will contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) office directly to resolve, and hang up. The SSA will never call you to suspend or threaten your benefits, and would never ask you to send money or provide a bank account or credit card number.

Unfortunately, scammers involving the SSA are on the rise. The SSA has a warning about these scams and encourage consumers to contact them directly at 1-800-772-1213 for verification, Further, consumers are encouraged to report these calls to the Social Security Administration’s Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271 or 1-866-501-2101 (TTY).

Roger, I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact me directly at vantillon@checkbca.org if I can be of further assistance.
