Lawauna, thank you for contacting us. This is a classic scam. The scammers follow a script. Once they have you on the phone, they congratulate you on your eligibility and then ask for your banking information so they can do a direct deposit into your account or they tell you they need to collect a one-time processing fee. Do not fall for it. Never give this information over the telephone. If you have to pay money for a free government grant, how is that free? The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.

To reduce the number of telemarketing calls you receive, have your phone number placed on the National Do Not Call Registry. To register online, visit www.donotcall.gov. To register by phone, call 1-888-382-1222. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Here is the link: https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1

Lawauna, you can also file a complaint with BCA. We can take note of the number for our records, and as more information is gathered we can build a file around this number and at the very least caution the public about receiving phone calls from this particular number. Here is the link: http://www.checkbca.org/file-complaint

Thank you for utilizing our ATE Forum. It is one of the many free consumer services we offer. It's free to sign up, which you can do here: http://www.checkbca.org/consumer-ally.
