BCA's Summary and Analysis:

Our complaint history for this company shows the company gave proper consideration to complaints presented to them.

Complaints processed allege deceptive sales practices. Companies report a Triton sales representative contacts them over the telephone soliciting toner. The companies advise the sales rep they are not interested or already have a toner supplier. Shortly thereafter, complainants allege they begin receiving unwanted supplies of toner, along with an invoice demanding payment and in some instances report having a difficult time getting the company to cancel the invoice and pick up the product.

The company generally responds to complaints by stating they will cancel the invoice and remove the companies from their contact list. Other responses are less forthcoming, stating that Triton has settled the matter directly with the consumer.

Comments and Analysis

Before you accept, or pay for, any merchandise that arrives under less-than-clear circumstances, protect yourself by insisting on proof that an order was placed. If no proof is provided, offer to return the merchandise at no cost to you. Give them a specific and reasonable amount of time (30 days, etc.) to pick up the merchandise. Tell the sellers that you reserve the right to keep the merchandise or dispose of it after the specified time has passed.

Businesses should designate a person or team of employees to handle supply orders and payments. Employees should be trained not to provide information regarding their office equipment or supplies to unsolicited callers. Instead they should gather the caller's information and inform them that a message will be relayed to the appropriate individual that handles the orders for the office. Never provide the name of this person because the scammer can use this to claim that person authorized the order.

If you receive unordered products, refuse the delivery. Even if an employee mistakenly agrees to accept the delivery, a business is not required to pay for unordered supplies. According to the law, the merchandise may be treated as a gift and can be used or discarded however the business chooses.

Other Considerations

We know of no other matter or practice relating to this company that may assist you in your consideration of this company.
